He always tries to do the right thing, but at the same time struggles to save himself from the many self-destructive elements that plague his own life, including women and gambling.

The "rake" of the title - a barrister who likes to drink, gamble, and womanize - is superbly played, but it's the ensemble acting that really makes the show top-notch, and normally I'm not a big fan of Australian TV.

In the end there were not enough customers watching which hurts advertising dollars which only matters in Hollywood. Maybe Rake would have been more successful on a cable channel.
